How do we remove tattoos?
We use an advanced Q-Switch laser system known as RubyStar+. This is the most
effective and successful form or treatment available anywhere in the world for
tattoo removal.
The laser emits an intense beam of light, which is directed onto the tattoo. The light
beam breaks up the ink particles that form the tattoo, reducing them to minute
fragments which are naturally absorbed through the body’s own cleansing
mechanism. With a planned programme of laser treatment, the tattoo becomes progressively
lighter until it is completely gone or the optimum degree of fading is achieved.

Are there alternative methods of tattoo removal?
There are several. They involve using dermabrasion (sanding), acids, plastic surgery
or chemical peels. These methods tend to be painful, require a lengthy recovery period
and frequently result in scarring. We do not recommend them and
we never use them at the Franklynn Centre.
Can any type of tattoo be treated successfully?
We can provide effective laser treatment to
remove most tattoos, whether amateur, professional, ‘permanent make-up’ or
‘semi-permanent make-up’ or a tattoo caused by an injury. However, tattoos do vary
greatly in size, colour and density, and some respond more easily to treatment than
others. If necessary, we carry out a small ‘patch test’ and assess the result
before deciding whether to proceed.
Who will carry out the treatment?
Your treatment will be carried out by a highly
skilled and experienced cosmetic laser specialist.

How many treatments sessions will be needed?
Almost all tattoos need more than one treatment
and some require multiple treatments. The actual number depends on the size, location,
colour and density of the tattoo. Each treatment session can
last anything from 10 minutes up to half an hour. You will see your tattoo becoming
steadily paler following each treatment. To ensure optimum success,
an interval of 4-6 weeks is normal between treatment sessions.
Is the treatment painful?
A stinging sensation may be felt, but nothing more serious than that. A local
anaesthetic cream can be used for very sensitive areas, or simply to help you
feel more relaxed.
Is there any scarring?
Unlike other treatment methods, with laser
treatment the surface of the skin is neither cut nor burnt. This minimises any
risk of scarring.
What is the first step?
Call the Franklynn Centre to arrange a FREE private consultation. We will examine
the tattoo, discuss with you the treatment needed to remove it and tell you the cost.
Then we leave it to you to decide if you want to go ahead – there is no obligation.
