Which conditions can be treated?
At the Franklynn Centre, we use microdermabrasion to treat these four important
skin conditions:
- Ageing or tired-looking skin
- Active acne and acne scars
- Injury scars
- Sun-damaged skin or pigmentation marks

How does microdermabrasion work?
Microdermabrasion is a quick and gentle procedure that causes no distress to the patient.
Using a slim, lightweight handpiece - about the size of a torch - a stream of fine
microcrystals is propelled onto the area of skin being treated. This is combined with a
suction action that removes dead and damaged layers of skin and any scar tissue. The whole
process lightly resurfaces the skin and stimulates the growth of new healthy cells.
Can I start a treatment programme at any time?
Two important preliminary steps are needed before your treatment at the Franklynn
Centre begins:
1. We carry out a careful assessment of the area of skin to be treated
and work out a treatment programme with you.
2. We provide a special skin care programme for you to carry out at home,
starting two weeks before your first treatment.
As soon as these preliminary steps are completed, treatment can begin immediately.
Who will carry out the treatment?
A practitioner in cosmetic skin care, highly experienced in microdermabrasion treatment.

How many treatment sessions will be needed?
As you would expect, this varies from patient to patient and depends on the type of
skin problem requiring treatment, how serious the condition is and the results desired.
Patients with either active acne or acne scarring generally need between 6 and 12 sessions.
Other skin conditions normally require 4 to 8 sessions.
Each session lasts from 30 to 60 minutes, with intervals of 1-2 weeks in between. An
improvement in the smoothness of your skin will be noticed immediately, from the very
first treatment. As the programme continues, imperfections steadily fade and the
skin takes on a fresh, healthy glow. Home-care products can be recommended to maintain
maximum benefits when the treatment is finished.
For patients with active acne, antibiotic treatment is often required in conjunction with
microdermabrasion. The Franklynn Centre can arrange a suitable course.
What is the first step?
Call the Franklynn Centre to arrange a private consultation. We will make a thorough
assessment of your condition, explain and discuss the treatment programme you require,
and tell you the cost. Then we leave it to you to decide if you want to go ahead – there
is no obligation.
