What type of implant - saline, silicone or soya bean oil?
All implants have a similar silicone outer covering. It's the
filling that is different. Pre-shaped silicone is the most popular
type in the U.K. - they tend to look and feel more natural. Be sure
to discuss the safety aspects with your surgeon.
Where should the incision be?
The alternatives are the fold underneath the breast, the area around
the nipple, under the arm or through the navel. Each has its
advantages and disadvantages, partly depending on the type of filling you
prefer and the size of the implant. Scars from implants generally
heal well and become barely visible.
|
Where should the implants be placed?
Implants can be positioned either under or on top of the chest muscles
(or 'pecs'). In each case they'll be below and behind the breast
tissue, avoiding problems with breast-feeding. There pros and cons
for each position, your surgeon will advise which choice will suit you
best.
What about the shape and style of implant?
Most implants are available with either a round or tear drop
shape. Your choice will depend on the existing shape of your breasts
and the new effect you want to achieve.
What texture should be chosen for the implant covering?
The covering can be either smooth or slightly textured, similar to
velvet.
Does implant surgery carry any risks?
There are general risks associated with any type of surgery.
Complications are rare with breast implant surgery, but you should be
aware of any possible problems.
They include leakage, implant
infection, capsular contraction and sensation changes. Ask your
surgeon to explain these to you.
|
What size should implants be?
This depends on the present size of your breasts and how much larger
you would like them to be.
Surgeons have various ways to show what
can be achieved with different size implants. 'Before and After'
photographs of previous patients can be particularly helpful.
Can I talk to people who have already had the treatment I am considering?
Certainly. We will be pleased to arrange this for you.
How much will treatment cost?
There is no standard cost for breast implant surgery because each
patient has her own particular needs and preferences. Following your initial consultation
at the Franklynn Centre - for which there is no charge - we will be able to quote
you a total price.
